SageTV Releases HD Theater Device (STP-HD200)

S
SageTV HD Theater

It appears that SageTV somewhat quietly released a new version of their HD extenders called the HD Theater.  The specifications and features are a little bit vague at this point, despite the ability to purchase this product on-line…right now. The old SageTV HD Extenders (HD100) required a SageTV server on the back-end, or they would not function.  My guess is that this device is their...

Automatic Playlists, Intelligent Music Selection, Categorization, Mobility, and Sharing

A
Music Tools

How do you organize your music?  Are you an iTunes or Windows Media user?  Do you not bother owning your own music, and use services like Pandora or Last.FM?  Do you create playlists?  If so, are they manual or “smart”?  Can your playlists evolve as your tastes in music do, or do they require you to make changes on your own? Music happens to be something I spend a lot of my days...

Amazing Human-Computer Interfaces – Prepare to Finally Ditch That Mouse and Keyboard!

A
Minority Report

Whether or not you’re a fan of the movie Minority Report (or Tom Cruise, for that matter), you’re going to love what you see here.  This article was sparked by some new technology from a company called Oblong Industries.  Apparently, many of the founders of this organization were involved in the making of the movie and have decided to make the incredibly cool user interface from the...

President Elect Obama and His Weekly YouTube Video Address

P

In one of my previous articles prior to the election, I made mention of whether or not the great business leaders of the United States would step up to the governmental plate and bring this country back on track.  Whether or not you like his views, political stance, experience, background, or anything else about him…you have to admit that President Elect Obama knows how to rally people. ...

Nothing to See Here… #1

N
Nothing To See Here

Having just got back from a trip to San Jose to meet with a number of my new CenterBeam team members, I decided to plow through my Google Reader and have a look at some of the starred items I’ve been tagging over the past couple of weeks.  In doing so, I’ve found a few nuggets that I felt should be shared.  Thus, “Nothing to See Here” has been born.  Hopefully, the title...

The American Grass Roots Voting Infrastructure

T
Vote!

Every four years I have the same moment of bewilderment.  It’s that moment when I go on line (or digging through my mail) to figure out where it is I’m supposed to vote.  Every time, I’m told the same thing: “Some Random Person’s Garage”. In this day and age, in a world full of technology…I’m awestruck by the fact that we still commandeer thousands...

Managing Distractions and Increasing Productivity – How Do We Get Things Done?

M

We live in a very distractable world.  Email, Instant Messanger, Cell Phones, Home Phone (if you still have one), Text Messages, Desk Phone.  No matter where you are, you can be interrupted.  Sometimes in more ways than just one…  How many times has this happened to you: You’re on a call at your desk, and another call beeps in.  You have to ignore it, as…you’re on another...

Read, Listen, View #1 – Politics, Economy, and Our Country’s Org Chart

R

I was sparked by a couple things over the past few days, and they’re ultimately the reason for this post.  In fact, I think the “Read, Listen, View” concept of this post just might end up being a recurring theme for my blog.  A good read, a good listen, and a good view…all on similar or related topics. First…I’m NOT a fan of politics.  Frankly, I’m amazed...

Brainstorming with Mind Mapping Software

B

Since the Acquisition (press release maybe this Friday?) of Network Insight (NI), I’ve been spending a fair amount of time trying to understand the technologies of our new company.  My responsibilities at NI have always included the technologies we used to run our business, and manage the networks of our many customers from within our 24×7 NOC (among my many other duties).  With the...

My Goddaughter is a Geek.

M

My Goddaughter is so cool she has her own blog. Becoming a Godfather is actually one of the coolest things that’s ever happened to me… I’ve ALWAYS wanted to be a Godfather.  The parents are great friends, the father is my best friend and was the best man at my wedding.  I’ve known him since 1991-92 timeframe and his wife is the sweetest thing ever.  Months back, while...
