After my first iteration of an "About Me" page, I got an overwhelming feeling that it read like 1) A dating service profile, and 2) A resume. Not exactly exciting reading material! So, I'll have to re-write it in the future to have a little more of a human appeal. <chuckle>
CAREER
I got my Electrical Engineering degree in the mid-90's, and various choices in my life have led me to where I am today. I'm currently the Chief Architect for Monitoring Systems at CenterBeam. Network Insight, who I've been with since 1999 (with a 3-year break in between) was recently acquired by CenterBeam. I ran my own eCommerce company for a few years in-between all of this.
Throughout my experience, I have been a contributing factor to the entire product / service, project, and/or operations maturity process. I have had experience with initial plans, design, development and prototyping, to production and release, all the way through quality assurance and continuous improvement. I have managed small and large numbers of people, worked within varied sizes of functional teams, and have started / operated my own company. I’ve held positions from “hands-on” object oriented programming and electronic board-level design, to director-level management and everything in between. I've got a very good ability to see the big picture as well as the details. My short-tem goal is a VP position in technology within a company I can dedicate my time to, and make a substantial and meaningful difference in. My long-term goal is a Chief Technology Officer position.
Since 1999, Network Insight has provided professional and managed services to enterprise business and service providers. We have a 24x7x365 Network Operations Center, fully staffed, constantly watching and maintaining our customer networks. My responsibility is anything technologically related to running and operating the business, and maintaining our customer networks. Aside from my job description duties, I am also heavily involved in operations of the NOC and am regularly ingrained with Sales.
Since 1999, CenterBeam has been providing outsourced managed IT services to mid-sized companies (typically between 100 - 3,000 employees). CenterBeam's customers experience infrastructure and support comparable to what a Fortune 500 company deploys--without compromising their IT budget. What CenterBeam does for desktops and servers, Network Insight has done for routing and switching. So, this acquisition extends our services without much duplication or overlap. My responsibilities with the new organization will remain as a technology leader for monitoring systems.
PERSONAL
While this blog won't contain overly personal information, I'll certainly have some non-career/technology items within it. So, a bit about that side of me...
I know myself. I'm athletic and exercise regularly, and if I play sports it's typically volleyball or hockey. I'm empathetic. I'm a good judge of character. I'm a good wing-it cook. I'm good at figuring things out, whatever they may be. I'm loyal, occasionally to a fault. I'm in a downsizing mode (read: too much clutter!) I'm good at being a geek. Yes...I, on many occasions, have been known to totally dork out. I like to build rather than buy (time permitting, of course). I'm constantly tinkering with one thing or another (finished project or not). I'm into little pubs or dive bars more than loud clubs (a sign of getting old, is my guess!) I'm a bit of a beer snob, and love a good (red) wine...but am nowhere near wine snob status. I'm not a fan of cold weather (growing up in the Detroit area will do that to ya...) I've got a kick-ass dog that keeps me sane.
